چکیده

This paper describes AMIRAS, an airborne demonstrator of the Microwave Imaging Radiometer with Aperture Synthesis, which is the instrument onboard ESA’s Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. The main electrical, mechanical, thermal, and control elements of the demonstrator are shown, together with its capabilities and performances as demonstrator of the spaceborne instrument. AMIRAS main tests inside an anechoic chamber, field ground experiments, and its first two maiden flights are reported, and some results of these tests are highlighted. AMIRAS will further be used in some calibration and validation campaigns of the SMOS mission.

Development and Characterization of Fully Polarimetric Noise Injection Radiometer for MIRAS

An L-band noise injection radiometer (NIR) has been designed and implemented by Helsinki University of Technology Laboratory of Space Technology for the SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) mission of ESA [1]. The work is performed as a part of ESA’s MIRAS Demonstrator Pilot Project-2 (MDPP-2) under a subcontract for EADS-CASA. Other partners in the MDPP-2 NIR project are Toikka Engineering ...

Status of the Norwegian hyperspectral technology demonstrator

The Norwegian defence research establishment (FFI) is building a technology demonstrator for hyperspectral target detection. The demonstrator system will integrate hyperspectral and conventional imagers with on-board real-time processing for target detection. The system is built around a hyperspectral camera working mainly in the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) spectral range. Image data will ...

Verification of L-band Fully Polarimetric Noise Injection Radiometer Measurement Capability

Abstract A functional test to verify the proper and accurate measurement capability of an L-band fully polarimetric noise injection radiometer is presented. The test is designed specifically for the MDPP-2 (MIRAS Demonstrator Pilot Project 2) NIR (Noise Injection Radiometer), which has two functions: (1) to calibrate the MIRAS (Microwave Imaging Radiometer using Aperture Synthesis) instrument b...

PAU-SA: A Synthetic Aperture Interferometric Radiometer Test Bed for Potential Improvements in Future Missions

The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission is an Earth Explorer Opportunity mission from the European Space Agency (ESA). Its goal is to produce global maps of soil moisture and ocean salinity using the Microwave Imaging Radiometer by Aperture Synthesis (MIRAS). The purpose of the Passive Advanced Unit Synthetic Aperture (PAU-SA) instrument is to study and test some potential improveme...

Interest of a Full-Waveform Flown UV Lidar to Derive Forest Vertical Structures and Aboveground Carbon

Amongst all the methodologies readily available to estimate forest canopy and aboveground carbon (AGC), in-situ plot surveys and airborne laser scanning systems appear to be powerful assets. However, they are limited to relatively local scales. In this work, we have developed a full-waveform UV lidar, named ULICE (Ultraviolet LIdar for Canopy Experiment), as an airborne demonstrator for future ...
